A friend of mine's father died. I want to send his family something, but not the normal flowers. Any ideas?

I hate the normal floral arrangement- you get so many of them when a family member dies- you just lay them around the house, and then throw them out when the die. What a waste of money!

I was looking for something else to send instead. Any ideas?

Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersI always send a potted tree like a dogwood, a blue sruce, or something like that. They can plant it in their yard and when they look at it in later years they can remember their loved one. People really seem to appreciate the gesture.
Reply:Take them some food, offer to help with the thank you cards, donate some money to some organization in the deceased's memory, or just send a nice card with heartfelt sentiments and let them know you're there for them if they need anything.
Reply:You could maybe send a gift basket of fruit to the family or maybe donate some money to a charity in memory of your friend's father.
Reply:I always plant a tree for them in their yard,or give them a nice house plant in a nice pot. or send a plant you can have sent from a florist, something that will live.send them a nice flowering young tree to plant. It will survive being sent in the mail. as I have done this before.some nurserys will do this for you i believe.as doing this will give them something alive to remind them of the dearly departed.
Reply:If the father was into a certain cause or hobby, donate to that cause in memory of him. Or you could make them a meal, or bring over some groceries, they probably have a lot on their minds right now and grocery shopping isn't one of them.
Reply:A Nintendo Wii video game system!
Reply:I know that when my friend died, her family didn't want to recieve flowers. I donated money to a charity that was related to her illness, in her name. That is a nice gesture and it goes to help so many others who are suffering the same illness. Thank you and good luck.
Reply:I always send over a case of beer, helps with my grief.
Reply:small figurines, flowers with pieces that they can keep afterwards, or sometimes just simple heartfelt cards with personal messages in them.
Reply:Yeah, go over there and help with the dishes, mow the yard, take some food, etc.
Reply:send a chique
Reply:Well, it depends on their religion, when one of my good friends died, I wrote a letter to his mom telling her all the adventures we went through (of course this would not apply to ur friends father, but you can write some nice memories) for example, try to ask them what nice things they used to do togerther, and tell them how this always will live in their memories, and if any time they start getting nostalgic about it to read that again (to live the moment again), and also a big angel figure will help too!fitness

Anniversary. Today is our 5th and I just received flowers?

I'm a bit annoyed because we don't have money for extras like that. And I feel bad for feeling this way. We have company coming in next week and this money could have been used for that. Am I wrong to be a bit upset? I think it is very thoughtful of him, but at the same time, its the money thing and the arrangement was obviously expensive.

Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersIt's ok to feel this way, but now is not the time to bring it up. Later on, you can mention that you would rather not get flowers - there's nothing wrong with this. I personally don't care about flowers - they just make a mess; my husband knows how I feel, and has no problem finding other (less cliché) ways of expressing his affection. I told my husband pretty early on - if you ever get a funny desire to buy flowers, just look up how much they cost, count out the cash, and put it on my desk; then I will know that the sentiment was there, and it's the thought that counts.
Reply:Yup, I get it. :) Had the same issue with my ex; I was working 7 days/week, sometimes we'd have barely enough to pay the bills - and he insisted on bringing me flowers, when I didn't even like flowers. We had a few arguments over it. But if it's only once in 5 years - it's not so bad. Just enjoy it. Report It

Reply:getting mad at him for him being nice to you is being a *****. lots of women don't get that at all, and would love that so stop complaining about it and be happy. GOD
Reply:He wanted you to know how important you are to him. Get over the money deal. He wanted to do a good thing for you to show his love.
Reply:take the gift and dont be angry he felt it was important its not like he went out and got you diamonds thank him and do something nice for him
Reply:Come on it is your anniversary and he wanted to show he loves you. What women does not want flowers sent to them for there anniversary. I understand getting mad about the money issue but enjoy the flowers and deal with that later. Would you of wished he did not thing at all? Be grateful for what you have.
Reply:He could have been setting money aside for the flowers over the last several weeks or so. Don't get angry and call him out on it. Just appreciate the gift and let him know how much you appreciated it and love him.
Reply:Remember... it's the thought that counts on a gift. Your husband's heart was in the right place... thats all that counts. Cover him with kisses and let it go.... gifts from the heart sometimes have no logic attached. Thats why they are so special.
Reply:sometimes it's hard to be a women
Reply:It's only money and you're more important to him. This is much better than him forgetting.

Besides, you don't know how much he paid for this or if he's been putting some money aside for the flowers.

Cheer up and enjoy your anniversary.
Reply:Let him spoil you a bit -- enjoy your anniversary!
Reply:Count yourself as blessed., and let him know you're grateful. Then in the fullness of time, let him know that you love him even without expensive presents, and even more when it's spent on other things you care about.

If you jump on him for his actions he'll quickly learn to dread ALL special occasions. :-)

You don't know but that he might have got a special deal from a friend at work or something like that. It takes away most of the fun for him if you start asking. Wait until he really screws up to be critical!
Reply:He could have borrowed the money. He remembered, you got something and not just a card. Be grateful. I got flowers I was allergic to once. I never let on because I didn't him to feel like his effort was all for nothing. What did you get him?
Reply:I'd bet you are the type to ****** if you DIDN'T get anything on your anniversary
Reply:Did you both agree previously not to buy each other anything for your anniversary?

If not, then be happy he is a thoughtful man.

The only time I have EVER gotten flowers is from a customer of mine on my birthday who wanted to impress the 20 year old I worked with so he could get into her pants.

Relax and enjoy them!
Reply:No sense worrying about something you can't change. I'd thank him for the gesture, but also remind him that if things are tight, next time you should talk together about any purchases he or you may be contemplating.

Happy anniversary!
Reply:Don't make a big issue of it. He loves you. Maybe he got them cheap. Also, since he did it just cut back on something else. That way you'll be even. Think about it.super nanny

Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersI am sorry about your friends loss. It must be a difficult time. I know this answer is too late to be of any real help. Had I seen the question earlier, I would have suggested that you have the florist make a display using white flowers and using silver and black ribbon to dress it up.

The next time you need special arrangements, talk to your florist and try to give them some ideas. Most will be glad to make you something special. After all, they make the same arrangements every day.

Good luck and best wishes to you and your friend.

What grabs your attention when ordering flowers, color, design, what?

Ive ask that question because I am a florist and this shop has experience growth this past year.

We want to stand out in the floral industry. We offer already other free services that other shops dont offer. Such as pictures of their arrangement or gifts sent to their emails , so they can enjoy the gifts as well. This has really made a difference with our customers. Some of our customers have said they stop ordering online because they were recieving products that just wasnt what they ordered.

Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersMy main thing when ordering flowers is the color selection. I like deep, rich colors like pumpkin orange, chocolate brown, blood red, etc. Like fall colors, mostly.
Reply:i look for something more interesting than just flowers. a decorative vase that can be used again. maybe river rocks and twigs that can be saved after the flowers die. beautiful ribbons and bows. oh--and i hate those generic business card size greetings that come on the arangement. people will spend $50 for a nice arangement, and then they cheap out on the card! i wish there were classier choices in this area.

i really enjoy progressive, trendy looks, almost a japanese style, a feeling or emotion should be conveyed through flower arangements.Shoes

Is it taboo to have silk flowers for a funeral?

We are thinking of making our own arrangement with silks for the casket spray. Just wondering if we risk seeming tacky.
Is it taboo to have silk flowers for a funeral?
Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersI am so sorry to hear that you have to be thinking about this.

I have seen silks used for the casket spray, but I am sorry to report that when I have seen them, I have heard nothing but negative comments, and the general consensus seems to be that they are in very poor taste. I think part of that perception in people comes from the fact that silks are meant to be reused, and people think it's disrespectful to reuse the flowers meant to show a final tribute to a loved one.

The casket spray is traditionally, at least where I am from, buried with the casket. Many times, mourners in the immediate family will take flowers from it as they are leaving, as most don't stay to see the actual burial.

May I offer a suggestion? To get very good silks that look real, you are going to have to spend at least $2-3 dollars each. You can get real flowers for less than that. I know that casket sprays cost a ridiculous amount of money--I recently found out that the flower shop my family frequents for all funeral flowers charges between $250 and $300 for a funeral spray, which usually has 3-4 dozen flowers, plus greenery and a ribbon. You can probably get long stemmed roses, or some other kind of flower, if roses aren't what you want, for less than you would pay for silks. For example, the Costco near us has beautiful roses for $10-$15 a dozen, depending on stem length and country of origin. You don't need all long stems to make a spray. You need about half long stems, and half shorter. If you go to a florist, you can buy the greenery, or you can buy a potted plant, such as a really lush fern, and get the greenery there. A fabric store will have the ribbon, and you can write on the ribbon the way they used to do it in the old days, with a fabric marker. As I am sitting here totalling up numbers in my head, I am guessing you can make a really beautiful spray for well under $80.

I have been to several funerals where the family did the flowers themselves. One spray was an very large bunch of wildflowers. The grandchildren picked them for their grandma's casket, and then one of the daughters arranged them. She got a puffy fabric pain marker, and wrote "Grandma" on the ribbon, and it was really beautiful.

Ultimately, the decision is up to you and your family. I have told you what I have seen and heard, but I can honestly tell you as well that I would not think silks are tacky, and I would actually find it beautiful to think that a family made the spray themselves.

I wish you the best in whatever you decide, and again, I am very sorry for your loss.
Reply:i used to work in a floral shop,,,,lots of people use silk flowers for a funeral, sorry this is something you need to do. best wishes to you
Reply:Tacky!
Reply:id say tacky, real ones will be prettier
Reply:It would be very tacky. No matter how well they're made, they ALWAYS look like silk flowers. Besides, after you're done what are you going to do with them? Save them to go cheap on the next funeral? Most cemeteries do not allow silk flower placements.
Reply:You can do whatever you want.
Reply:i'd say yes. people usually dont want to keep such things around. go with either real ones or send a basket of fruit or something. i never send flowers anymore because they are usually a waste of money IMHO
Reply:Yes. The casket spray is representative of the family and is buried with the casket.
Reply:Silk flowers would definitely be in poor taste. There are just no instances where silk flowers are an acceptable substitute for the real thing. Sorry.loan

For Guys - would you like getting flowers on your birthday?

Would you rather a girl sent it to your workplace, or home?

Is it bad to send flowers to yourself to make your partner jealous? we work together and i just ordered an?

Is it bad to send flowers to yourself to make your partner jealous? we work together and i just ordered an?
Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersROMANCE ALLOWS FOR A LOT OF THINGS.

It seems innocent enough in the game of love. He might feel flattered if/when he finds out the truth (I think I would)." But it's not clear what you mean by "partner"--business or personal or both?

However, romance allows for a lot of things, and what you've done hurts no one that I can see and unquestionably helps the florist industry.

Since the flowers have already been sent, focus now on how you're going to handle it from here. What will you say if he asks about them? Put yourself in his place, try to think like he does. If he's strictly a business partner to date, how might this affect your business relationship?

But by all means, ENJOY your beautiful flowers when you get them, and ENJOY your secret admirer note! There's no law that says the secret admirer can't be you.
Reply:its childish

and could do more harm than good

what if he got something delivered that said that?

i do not think you would appreciate it one bit

and even if you confessed it was you i doubt he would believe you

Reply:This is pretty immature. You're basically lying - not to make yourself feel better, but to manipulate someone else.

This isn't a very healthy relationship if you have to resort to tricks like this.

Just tell your partner straight out that you sent them to yourself because you DESERVE flowers, and no one else is providing what you need.
Reply:Bad? No.

Immature? Yes.

It could cause more problems in the long run. Like, what if he doesn't even get jelous?
Reply:Its a little juvenile. Even more so if you guys are in a relationship. But if it works..... lol

My valentine roses lasted 4 days, a tied arrangement, is this normal.?

Hi, my husband ordered a dozen red roses to be delivered on valentines day. The first one to die or go over was the next day and now 4 days on almost half have gone over. As you can tell, I don't get delivered flowers very often, but is 4 days rather short for professionally arranged roses.
My valentine roses lasted 4 days, a tied arrangement, is this normal.?
Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersYes and no. I have seen it happen both ways. It is according to the shop and how they handle their merchandise. But cut flowers do not live long.

Congratulations on receiving roses.
Reply:Yes! it is,but if you can get them out of the water if you still have them.

Tie upside down in a very warm room in the house...maybe close to a dryer, or hot water heater or even a warm room.

Leave for 2 weeks....and 'maybe' just ,maybe you can still keep some of them...as a reminder how hubby was thinking of you.

Now when you have them dryed...pick out say 4-5 of the best or even more! and take a nice frame.Remove the glass, and just stick them on carboard in side the frame....don't replace the glass....and for a yr....they should look sweet!

Cut off stems...to fit the frame .Your roses will then remain in your heart a little longer! :)
Reply:That was so sweet of your hubby. It is sad when that happens to roses, and, unfortunately, it's the worst on Valentine's Day. That's because they are shipped early to the shops so the shops have time to do the orders, etc. One thing to do to help them last a bit longer is to recut the end stems of the roses--take a utility scissors and at an angle, make a new cut. Also, replace the water in the vase every other days. I keep all of my roses by drying them. I cut off the blossoms and put them in a flat glass bowl and air dry them. You can use them as potpourri (add some essence) or just display them in a crystal bowl .
Reply:Cut flowers espesially roses do not last long. 5 or 6 days would be the maximum for roses. But they should at least all last a few days.
Reply:it depends on many factors,

if they were well watered

used aquaplus flowerfood, i

f they were premium fresh roses

how long the company hand them before

if your roses were wired,

if they were kept out of heat and direct sunlight.

roses aren't typically know to be a long lasting flower. premium long stem roses from equidor can last up to two weeks.

I really hope you enjoyed your flowers it truly is one of the best gift to recive ever!
Reply:that is about average if you did not recut the stems and change the water every day. that is something they sometimes forget to tell because the florist is so busy that time of year.loan

Did you get flowers for Valentine's Day?

We broke up after 7 yrs last month. He sent me a huge arrangement of roses to me at work like nothing happened with a card that says, "Thank you for the best 7 years of my life." Your's Always... What do you think it means? I did not call him. I am still hurt over the break up. Thanks.

FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy Flowerswell, you're not robots guys, you have hearts, and when they are hurt, it takes time for them to feel better.

it will take time for both of you to get over this part of your lifes you shared together. it is not easy to be sundunly without your other half. also it might be a little sign to show you that he is sad as well, that he still respects you, that you are still important for him as you shared do much together, but maybe there isn't any love in this. and maybe there is still something...

you could call him, to say thank you at least, to show that you appreciated it, and you can then maybe check what did this really meant.

personaly, i found this really cute

make sure of what YOU want as well dearling

Don't read anything more into it than that because he may just feel bad, but not want to get back together, but he liked it when he was with you, just let him do the work in that area, but you could tell him thank you for the flowers.
Reply:WOW...Just like my ex after 6yr relationship..He sent me 2 doz roses to my job...That "I am forever his" no matter what!..I am loving it I took picture of them and emailed them to the bit*h he is playing with! Happy Valentines
