Creative and not expensive center pieces ideas PLEASE!!!?

Hello Everybody!

I am doing a simple summer wedding. We are doing an outside ceremony at 10:30 and a brunch. For the bouquet we are using Cala Lillies.

I am now looking for an affordable option for the center pieces.

My first wish would be to RUN from flowers. Because they just seem like a waste of money. we pay a fortune for an arrangement that has no functionality... and after all, it is always hard to convince people to take them home.... or people take but trow them away...

So I am looking for new ideas! Because it is a morning wedding, candles are not very suitable either.

Any idea? we thought of many things but haven't found the best idea!

Help us!!!
Creative and not expensive center pieces ideas PLEASE!!!?

FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersHow about large vases full of fresh fruit- oranges, lemons, limes, pears, apples, whatever matches your colors
Reply:You can either rent or buy glass or plastic cake holders (like wedding cake holders) that are clear or colored. Turn them upside down so that they have a pedastal bottom and a bowl shape on top. Or just buy some bowls with that shape. Fill them with water. Then sprinkle in some blueberries (they float and are a beautiful color and very appropriate for summer) or some other kind of berry. Also scatter flower petals in the water and just drop in a few blossoms, so you don't spend a fortune on flowers. Scatter petals all over the table. You can also scatter a little glitter or confetti in the water and on the table and it should be perfect.
Reply:Have you thought about getting small low glass bowls and floating 1 large magnolia in them? That is classy and can be very inexpensive. Here is a link to cheap bowls http://www.efavormart.com/index.asp?Page...
Reply:Well.. baskets of fruit would certainly go along with the fresh, daytime, outdoor feeling. And the color would really pop.

Another thing I have seen in magazines- paper flower arrangements (look in paper crafts or wedding books for how to make, some are really cute!). You could make a few small arrangements for each table, and cluster them together in the middle.
Reply:Go to www.ediblearrangements.com they make fresh fruit arrangements...Good Luck
Reply:I'm also doing potted plants for my outdoor mid-day reception. We are having a center pot, then mini-pots surrounding it that guests can bring home as favors! Really cute once you see it.

The mini-pots are painted white and have a ribbon %26amp; favor tag on them. We haven't quite decided on the flower, but I think pansies may be the front-runner.

Wheat grass also looks great, OR you could do a different herb at each table.
Reply:I did not have any and no one noticed
Reply:What about a watermelon basket full of fruit on each table? The guests won't have to take it home because they would have snacked on it through the whole reception. Cheap, easy, colorful and tasty!
Reply:What about those beds of wheat grass? They look summery and you could make place cards in the shape of flowers and stick them in the grass.
Reply:Heart shaped vases from bed, bath, and beyond with a candle, and some potpourri around the candle, and some flowers around the vase.
Reply:Why not go wander around your local craft store and ask some questions of the staff there, they usually hire people who are pretty creative or they can direct you to someone who is on staff that's creative. Also, go wander the dollar store in your area. I would even say - how about beta fish in a center bowl, they are cheap and easy to care for and the stones/marbles you put on the bottom of the bowl come in great color choices and it's a novel idea. Good luck and God Bless.
Reply:you can do a wild arrangement. find afield with some colorful flowers and just get some greenery to fill in. the other thing that you can do is and kind of pretty leaved branches and a few flowers added for color. you can get the branches off of any tree you like. you can do a potted plant that way you can bring them home and plant them in the garden, that way you can spend less money for the wedding and still get a plant that might be a little more expensive then you would normally pay for your garden. if you don't want them the guests will be more likely not to throw them out.
Reply:We used potted flowers as our centerpieces... they were wrapped in fabric. Since we used plants native to our area, we planted them in our yard afterwards (some in my mom's yard, too... 24 tables is a lot of plants).

Cheap... and perrennials are items that you can enjoy for years to come!
Reply:Edible chocolate flowers! lol If they won't melt lol

You can also decorate the center with your wedding favors, other other things:

You can do photos of you and your fiance, (someone I know did this and created height with different sized boxes covered by a cloth

A vase filled with fresh fruit, tied with ribbon....

Get creative!
Reply:I know you said you weren't into flowers, but have you considered doing them yourself? For our wedding, we purchased tulips from Holland (very easy to arrange, just cut and throw in a vase), purchased cheap vases from Wal-Mart, and did them ourself. You can also give them to a local hospital when you're done if no one wants to take them home.

Reply:Flowers aren't that expensive if you know where to look and if you are wiling to arrange them at home. Depending on where you live, you can either get flowers from a wholesaler or go to Costco or another club store and talk to them about flowers. To further keep the cost down, try to choose flowers that are "in" season such as peonies. Or you could do what I ended up doing for my wedding. There was another wedding right after mine in the church and the bridal parties ended up sharing the flowers and the cost. Thankfully the other bride had extremely good taste. Because we shared the cost, we actually were given a discount on the flowers that we used for the table arrangements. Other ideas might include a white pillar candle and then create a wreath of flowers and ivy (live or fake) around it.

There's also a really awesome book that I used for my wedding called Bridal Bargains by Alan and Denise Fields. Most of the ideas from above I actually got from there (see Barnes and Noble link for more details).
Reply:rose petals in the center of the table around candles.
Reply:What about fishbowls? Just make sure to put the fish in last minute so you don't have any...um....floaters during the wedding. :)loan
